How to use content communities to expand your brand’s reach

Use targeted content to take your business to the next level

This is the first of a two-part series. Coming next:
• Build links to your site with video content

“Content is king!” Ah, the wonderfully overused statement that makes me want to throw my monitor at the wall and then hang my head in shame because it’s actually true. I feel like I can safely assume that we can all agree on the increasing importance of awesome content. Recently, it seems like everyone is championing for companies to evolve the way in which they approach creating content. (e.g. Coca-Cola’s 2020 content strategy. If you haven’t watched these videos, I’d highly recommend investing 20 minutes in order to see how big brands are changing the way they think about a cohesive marketing strategy.)

Besides the obvious SEO benefits to having original content, engaging material also helps your customers remember your brand. So having things people find interesting on your site makes it more likely for them to come back. Continue reading

Remove those regrettable online reputation tattoos

Chris AbrahamThe way you feel now about all those photos of you at the beach, in your suit, body-proud, tanned and drinking — liberation and joy — may end up making you feel completely different in your near future — trapped and ashamed. No matter how young you may be, reading these words, you need to start thinking long-game when it comes to your online reputation.

You’re at the mercy of the Panopticon: networked cameras are almost ubiquitous

Your online reputation on Google Search is a culmination of all your separate, discrete (or indiscreet) choices — sort of like tattoos — and it’s always easier to not get inked in the first place than it is live with the consequences or go through the pain and expense of having all of your tribal, prison, lower-back, ankle, neck, and face tattoos removed. Don’t mess with Texas (or reddit)

This is the second of two parts. Also see:
reddit is the elephant in the room of social media marketing

http://imgs.xkcd.com/store/imgs/8bit-1.pngChris AbrahamMy recommendation for you individuals who are interested in just growing your experience, mastery, equity, and inclusion as deeply as you can in as many relevant and germane communities as possible, you will never be rewarded unless and until you really commit to reddit. I have been with reddit way over 5 years and I have yet to get any traction there. Like I said last week in Reddit is the 800-pound Gorilla in the room, commit to reddit completely. Eschew Facebook and Twitter for a little while and replace Flipboard on your iPad with reddit. Commit making reddit your morning news and the novel you read before you go to sleep. This week, I want to add a few more specific tips. Continue reading

5 ways to turn your YouTube views into sales and traffic

What has your YouTube channel done for you lately?

Deltina HayYou followed the advice of the experts and created a YouTube channel. You even produced and uploaded some videos. Now you watch the numbers grow as YouTubers view your videos and subscribe to your channel.

But what do numbers matter to your business if they don’t convert to sales or leads?

YouTube visitors tend to convert and click deeper into websites than visitors from other social sites. Are you taking full advantage of this motivated audience?

Here are some tactics to help your YouTube channel and videos drive more traffic and generate more sales.

Optimize your YouTube channel

Do you know about all the goodies you can add to your YouTube channel? A couple of these goodies include adding links to your website and other social media accounts and linking your YouTube channel to your Google Plus profile.

Optimizing your YouTube channel helps your presence look more professional and encourages links to landing pages, product pages, and other places you want to drive traffic.

Customize your YouTube channel

It’s not that difficult to customize your YouTube channel to make it stand out from the crowd. Customizing your channel with a branded background sends a distinct message to visitors: that you take pride in what you produce and your videos are worth their time.

At top is a video that walks you through how to customize your background using templates. Continue reading

Taste everything well before serving up your social media offerings

Chris AbrahamIf you want to succeed in running a kitchen for the homeless in Washington, DC, or have wildly successful social media marketing campaigns, it all comes down to one thing: do you respect and appreciate your guests? Do you cut-corners and just serve slop or do you prepare organic, healthy, and delicious meals with an obsession for presentation and taste?

I volunteer as sous chef at a Washington, DC, homeless kitchen. They serve fresh, organic dinners to folks who really need a healthy meal. Miriam’s Kitchen treats everyone who dines there as respected and honored guests. I have learned a lot about how to be a much better social media marketer as a direct result of working both in the kitchen as a sous chef and also as dining room captain. Can someone who isn’t in love with the taste of food be a top chef? You know what they say, “never trust a skinny chef.”
