I have consistently tried to persuade people that the idea of 'viral marketing' is simply that. There is NO way to make your content go viral. What determines why everyone watched the Old Spice Guy in the shower? We can speculate but we really dont know and even Old Spice cant tell us if they can replicate that exposure *ahem* in another video.

I have found that products that are designed based on a familiar format or layout (Facebook most popular to replicate) gain much higher adoption rates faster. This is because people spend a lot fo time in Facebook and are familiar with the layout, look and feel. One of the roadblocks I have recognized with software adoption is the ease of use and time and resources required to 'get up and running'. Implementing a software that solves your needs and is familiar is going to gain market share quickly.
